Riverland Men’s Soccer Aiming for Nationals!

Riverland Men’s Soccer Aiming for Nationals!

For the Riverland Blue Devils men's soccer team, the fourth time turned out to be the charm! After appearing in the past three NJCAA Division III Region XIII finals and coming up on the losing end each time, the team finally captured the elusive title this past Sunday with a 2-1 overtime win over rivals Anoka-Ramsey Community College. With the win, Riverland also advances to the NJCAA Midwest District final, and they will host Region IV winner Harper College out of Palatine, IL, here in Austin.

Riverland midfielder Ntsako Baloyi scored both goals for the Blue Devils, including the "golden goal" game-winner five minutes into overtime. Forward Bol Bayak set up both of Baloyi's goals. The win came despite Riverland playing down a player for nearly an hour, after a Blue Devils defender was shown two quick yellow cards, leading to a red card that sent him from the game.

A win this Saturday in the District Final would qualify Riverland for their first-ever men's soccer national tournament. The Blue Devils would love to see a great crowd out at Wescott Field to cheer them on and show support for their efforts. Kickoff is at 1 PM this Saturday, October 28.
